Dear Black Diamond Dance Families,
We have some exciting news from Black Diamond Dance Academy!
We would like to announce that Tara Atkinson has accepted the new position of Competitive Program Dance Director. Tara brings with her over 20 years of experience in the dance world. She has taught every style of dance from ages 3-30. She comes with the knowledge of teaching, directing, and owning her own studio while also being a competitive dance judge for many competitions throughout Utah. Tara has shared her talent with many over the years and she is excited to share her knowledge and passion for dance with all of us.
We have decided to split our ever growing dance program into separate programs, competitive and recreation. We will have Tara Atkinson as the Competitive Program Director and our own Kris Magill will remain as the Recreation Program Director. With this change, other things will change to help our programs continue to grow and help our dancers to be the best dancers that they can be.
We will be holding 2 tryouts this year to accommodate the additional teachers and students that will be coming to our enhanced program. Our first tryout took place last weekend. The second will be held on Friday August 5th and Saturday August 6th so that we may continue to advertise and allow our dancers to spread the word and bring their friends to our studio. Dancers will be placed on a team by dance ability and skill. We have dissolved the current team names and team structure to be able to start fresh with a new program and a new schedule that will begin on Monday August 8th.
In July we will be offering technique classes instead of the regularly scheduled individual team classes for $80.00 ages 3-5 and $100.00 for ages 6+:
Monday & Wednesday 4:30-5:30 Ages 3-5
Monday & Wednesday 5:30 – 7:00 Ages 6-9
Tuesday & Thursday 4:30 – 6:00 Ages 10+
Our program plans are to have a Mini Varsity, Mini Company, Small Company, Junior Company, Senior Varsity, Company, and an Elite team. These teams will weigh heavily on dance ability within some age guidelines. We will be assessing dancers during tryouts to determine where will be the right fit for them to be grow and be their most successful. We feel strongly about the necessity of this vision going forward to grow our program and our dancers into the best they can be.
We hope that you will continue to join us on our exciting journey. Our goal is to expand our dancer’s knowledge, ability, and passion for dance. We would like to come together as a dance family to accomplish these goals. Change is always hard and this will take a bit of an adjustment, but we know together we can make these changes easier with everyone’s continued support of the teachers and directors.
Thank you,
Black Diamond Sports Center
